HDR began in 1974 when a group of clubs met in the high desert and decided to donate the funds they gathered from the games, raffles, and trail rides to support the CA4WDC. All the collected moneys aided the CA4WDC in efforts to keep the trails of California open to the users and not just to the viewers. HDR is now held every Memorial Day weekend in May at the Stoddard Valley OHV Area just outside of Barstow. Trails such as Achy Breaky, Blue Moon, Devil's Loop and El Diablo, Empire Strikes Back, and Pumpkin Eater are the reason for all the four wheelers. The Hi Desert Round-Up is part of a series of association fund-raising events, which include the Sierra Trek, Panamint Valley Days, Operation Desert Fun, Winter Fun Festival, and Molina Ghost Run. Trail bosses hold drivers meetings to let everyone know what CB channel to use and what they can expect by way of obstacles and an approximate time of return. A different club will usually host each trail run and provide experienced trail hands for lead, center, and rear positions. The Ruff Rock Cafe can also be found on location serving up breakfast and dinner throughout the weekend. The raffle always draws a big crowd hoping to win such prizes as Winch's, Tire sets, Body Armor, Lockers, etc, donated by sponsors and clubs. High Desert 4 Wheelers on the scene ready to rock & roll for a full weekend of awesome wheeling. PVD Trail runs range in difficulty from easy to extreme depending on what you sign up for. We had a good size group including some friends of HD4W and no break downs, although plenty of other people did have breakage. We enjoyed great food from Chef Andy's Ruff Rock Café serving up breakfast and dinner all weekend from a big tent kitchen. Some of us guys convinced the woman to go by telling them they wouldn’t have to do any cooking! Saturday night the café served up a huge deep pit BBQ with all the fixings and during the raffle there was Strawberry Shortcake and Panamint Pineapple Upside Down Cake. These are a few of the pictures from our South Park/Pleasant Valley run led by Ray Leuschner during Panamint Valley Days 2006, take a look at our photo albums link to see even more pictures from this event.
